As my 1990 model approaches 53,000 miles, I'm starting to think about changing that timing belt. I don't want to find out by experiment whether the Miata engine 'freewheels' OK, so it would be best to have the new belt on within the 60,000 miles recommended in the owner's manual. Has anyone changed theirs yet, or had it changed? It doesn't look like a horribly difficult job, according to the shop manual. (No engine pulling; drain coolant, pull some peripherals, remove valve train cover and three-piece engine front cover, ...) I just wonder if the extra expense (and worry -- "Will THEY screw something up?") of farming the job out is worth it. _________________________________________________________________ James Miller -- developing Unix software at (!)
