I don't have a problem with oil spilling cause I let the filter drain before
removing it.  When the car is warm I drain the oil pan.  Then wait a few hours
and change the filter, re-install the drain plug and add fresh oil.  The few
hour wait seems to let most of the oil drain out of the filter before I unscrew
it.
