It might be interesting to come up with a list of problems officially noticed by Mazda, or perhaps anything fixed under warranty for everybody on the list. On this subject, I have been have trouble with the factory exhaust system. Specifically, a nasty buzzing at 3300-3500 rpm. Dealer #1 insisted it was the muffler (I was dubious), replaced it under warranty, and the noise was still there. At that point I did some crawling around and tracked it to what looks like a heat guard in the form of a sleeve wrapped around the exhaust pipe as it descends from the engine. I pointed this out to dealer #2 (which had bought out dealer #1 in the mean time), who stated that no, it was actually the muffler that needed replacing (sound familiar?). I bowed to their superior knowledge, had the _3rd_ muffler (since new) installed on the car, and the problem is still there. I have yet to go back again. If anyone else has had this problem and has discovered what exactly is causing it and what the fix is, I'd be really happy to hear from you. Gordon.
