I've had exhaust 'problems' as well.  I too notice the buzzing that you get
at 33-3500 rpm in my 90 red package A.  However, the buzzing seems to be 
prevalent specifically during cool, humid weather and when the car is cold.
Once the car warms up, the buzzing usually goes away.  Is yours constant?

On a similar note, my catalytic converter had to be replace last month after
some of the screening inside the converter came loose and made an awful
rattling noise.  It sounded like a heat shield had come loose and was just
vibrating against the pipes at around 2800 rpm.
