From: (none) Subject: Catalytic Converter Recall Date: (none)
Last week I read in the New York Times that Mazda has issued a recall on the cataltic converters of about 17,000 early production Miatas (probably only 1990 but I am not exactly sure). Apparently the problem relates to what several people on the NET have noted as buzzing at about 3000-3500 RPM. In some of the catalytic converters the pad that the platinum is bonded to has become unglued. Although this does not apparently impair the function of the converter, it does makes a noise. No letters have apparently been send out to owners yet. However, I brought my car in for routene New York State Inspection last Thursday (bought in 1990) and they were able to check by computer that it was one of those recalled. I never noted any buxxing or rattling. However, they replaced the catalytic converter anyway.
