Just one data point on insurance for the Miata.  I live in the
greater Chicago area and am insured through the Chicago Motor
Club (an affiliate of AAA).  Because it comes equipped with an
air bag and an engine of modest power, they consider the Miata
to be nothing more than a small, economy car, and a very safe
one at that.  I pay approximately the same to insure it as any
other car in that class (a Nissan Sentra, for example).  Hard
to believe, I know, but true.  Who am *I* to tell them they're
wrong?
