I tried to fit my trusty old Sony amp in there, but it was 1/2" too big.
One of the newer amps would probably fit in there and would be relatively
theft proof. Also, since the space ends where the "wall" behind your
seats are,  you could probably just mount some woofers if you cut a hole
there.  I don't know what that would do to the structure of the car though.
It is tempting for me to try it though.
