I assumed that the space was for the battery, before they moved into the trunk proper. The story goes that the battery was to go behind the passenger seat, (near the center of the car for lower moment of inertia). I figured that they moved the battery but forgot to make the gas tank bigger. It seems to me that there is no good reason that the gas tank could not be made larger to take up that space. Be careful with that space. When I was replacing my shocks with koni's, I dropped the nuts that hold the top of the shocks in there. Having to get them out of there was not an experience I want to go through again. It was not meant to hold things, and is not lined properly for it. But a small tool kit (not individual tools) should fit nicely. Tom Tkacik tkacik@hobbes.cs.gmr.com
