From: (none) Subject: Radar Detector Mounting Location Date: (none)
Greetings again. (And thanks to all who have responded to my last question about gas problems) 8^) I just got my first radar detector for my miata; it's a whistler tri-band that uses the standard suction cup + bracket arrangement to mount it on the windshield. My question is this: I prefer to mount it low (but not obstructed by the wipers) and well to the left of center (in fact, if you look, it's centered between the left-front vent and the vent immediately behind the instrument cluster); that results in the detector pointing about 25 degrees left of the longitudinal axis. How critical is the alignment? Am I losing a significant amount of "protection" this way? I remember C&D did an article on detectors recently, but I don't think they talked a lot about the best and not-so-good mounting positions. Thanks for any help. Jim.
