> I'm almost to the point where I'll be at 15,000 miles on my Miata. Ask your dealer's service dept for a copy of their 15K maintenance checklist. They will give you one for free. Cross off the items that don't apply to Miatas (such as lubing the chassis and adjusting the valves) and you'll find there's very little you can't do yourself. I don't think they plug your Miata's computer in to anything unless they actually find something wrong. I did my own 15K service and I added a few things the dealer wouldn't have done: I changed the transmission and differential oils and the coolant and air filter, and I made sure I did a good overall job. The owner's manual recommends changing these items every 30K miles but, like engine oil, I change them more often than that because I want my car to last forever. (Changing the t & d oils was enough of a pain though that for the 30K service I had my mechanic do it ... which was good because he taught me about RedLine lubes which you shouldn't be without.) -- Michael J.
