From: (none) Subject: Another Gasoline/Pinging Question Date: (none)
Greetings. I wrote a while back about a pinging problem I've had for a few months off and on. I had switched to premium (usually bp/gulf) and was experiencing absolutely no pinging at all, under the hardest acceleration. I just refilled with cheap amoco and I'm hearing absolutely horrible detonation. Does the speed with which the symptoms reappear (like, as soon as I crank the engine after refilling) indicate one cause is more probable than the others, between timing, gas filter, and knock sensor? I know many of you would probably say "why doesn't this guy just take it to the dealer?" but the local dealer doesn't know jack and the dealer from whom I purchased it is in Atlanta, Rick Case Mazda. Right now I'm looking at taking the thing for a 6 hour drive (okay, it's not all that bad to think about!). Oh, and when I say heavy pinging, it's right on the verge of pinging in the 3000 rpm range under light acceleration in second gear. If you think this is too whiny drop your reply directly to me rather than the entire group. Thanks either way. -- Jim (moore@email.ncsc.navy.mil) For an idea to be fashionable is ominous, since it must afterwards be always old-fashioned.
