The shop manual (which I don't have here so I'm writing this from memory) says that the oil pressure at normal operating temperature should be between 25-30 psi at idle, and between 55-60 psi at 3000 rpm. It says nothing about pressures when the oil is cold but my own Miata behaves like you described. Just drive gently until everything is warm and normal. -- Michael J.
