There is a difference in the number of lock to lock turns. >Power is 2.8 while manual is 3.36 accurding to the Miata Shop Manual. I have no idea what the ratios were, but I thought the car was much too twitchy with the PS, something that I can probably get used to, the more serious problem was I could not feel the road at all through the steering. If you want to know how a good steering system should feel, go drive a Porsche, any Porsche! and it's isn't PS vs non-PS. 911 had manual steering, 964 (Carrera 4/2) had PS, 944 and 928 are PS (alright assisted) but they all feel VERY precise, you always get good feedback with your input. All my friends here hate the PS in the Miata and thought the manual system was far superior, it still sucks compare to my old 911, but tolerable. I believe Steve Bruun who claims that the quick ratio is an advantage in slalom driving; but on the normal roads, the thing scares me. Just another semi-worthless personal opinion... - Steve.
