Ihave taken mine off, also.  I drove over the plate with my pickup some it
has some nice tire marks on it and is all bent up.  I leave it in the
truck, so if I ever get pulled over for not having it on, I can showit to 
the officer and explain that it came off and got trashed by a following
car.
