Another solution is to use the RCA output available through the din connector on the back of the unit. The wiring of this connector was featured in a recent issue of the Miata magazine. This would privide a higher fidelity solution, but you would probably have to do it yourself. I have never found a single installer willing to do such a thing. The din connector also has line inputs that can interrupt the output of the unit. By using inputs and outputs, you could add a line-level (non-amplified) CD player, equalizer or other accecory of your choice. You could also have a cellular phone interrupt and ring over the sound system. In all cases, you would need a wiring output connector diagram from the accesory and do it yourself. But I have done these kinds of things before on my Rx-7s. My complaint about the factory unit is tape wow and flutter. When I listen music with high, constant notes (flutes, female vocals, etc.), the gargling is terrible. I have found that the unit needs very frequent and thorough pinch roller/capstan cleaning, and it helps to give it some warm up time, likely because the roller is made of hard, cheap rubber. I am wondering if I should have the dealer replace the unit. Has anyone else got any complaints about tape wow and flutter? -- Oversteer is when the side Dennis Ordiway of the car hits the tree.
