First, I have just finished moving the remainder of the list members over to the new software (yeah - the stuff Jamie hates so much :-). I have subscribed all of the people from the old list with ACK set, meaning that they will get a copy back of everything they send. Everyone can change their subscription as they like - you can start by sending a message to listserv@jhunix.hcf.jhu.edu with "help" in the message body. Second, addressing the issue of what the Reply-To header line should say... A large number of MTAs will send errors back to the list, enclosing the original mail message. Those messages can be snagged by looking for messages which include a specific header line: the Comment line. It will most likely no be in the header of the incoming message. > Normally I would send flames like this to the list maintainer privately, but > since Andy refuses to fix (or even acknowledge) the other bug in this mailing > list, which is that the Reply-To field is set to the list, making the "reply > to sender only" command of every mail reader in the world not able to work, I > might as well send all of my private replies to the list anyway. It is not a bug - it is a configuration parameter that I chose. It's not the author's fault. I did acknowledge your dislike of this behavior - I just didn't change it. I have come to the conclusion, largely convinced by Steve Bruun's mail explaining that he mistakenly sent mail to the list, that it was a poor choice, so I've changed it. The Reply-To header line will now contain the original sender's address. > (Note that I think a perfectly acceptable definition of "fix" is delete this > completely broken Kotsikonas mail software and do it the way it had been done > before about three months ago, which worked just great.) It may have worked just great for you Jamie, but it was becoming more and more work for me just to process subscription requests et al. I changed to this software so that everyone can maintain their subscription as they like. Now the list can pretty much take care of itself. That's enough for now... here's to Spring... -Andy Andy Poling Internet: andy@jhunix.hcf.jhu.edu UNIX Systems Programmer Bitnet: ANDY@JHUNIX Homewood Academic Computing Voice: (410)516-8096 Johns Hopkins University UUCP: uunet!mimsy!aplcen!jhunix!andy
