From: (none) Subject: Radio won't turn on Date: (none)
Hi...has anyone seen this problem with the stock radio: When the car is cold, the radio won't turn on. (The clock has power). If I push a tape in, the unit sucks it in, but doesn't play it. The eject button works, ejecting the tape. Pushing the ON button has no effect. After 5 to 30 minutes, pushing the ON button results in a *very* brief display on the LCD showing "AM" and the radio frequency (as if the radio was turning on), and then it is back to off. (By very brief, I mean less than 1/10 second or so.) After 10 to 40 minutes, pushing the ON button works, and continues to work nicely for the rest of the drive. If the radio was left ON when I turn off the ignition and remove the key, it is off when I start up again. I think the problem is in the "chip" (logic? microcontroller?), and not the ON-button. My dealer has never seen the problem, and offered to replace the radio for $350 (not clear if labor was included). The dealer has never heard of computerized problem-databases, alas. thanks, stan sieler SSMIATA sieler@allegro.com
