I put a Sony in mine. It skips once and a while but recovers very quickly where it left off. It doesn't annoy me. I picked Sony because they seem to put more research into ergonomics on all of their products. The volume and mute buttons sit perfectly near my finger tips when I rest my hand on the stick shift. Also, the look of the Sony's seem to match the look of the Miata interior better than any of the other decks I looked at. The price was around $375 for the deck through Crutchfield. I highly reccommend them. They generaly price their products %15 below list price and don't charge sales tax outside of Conneticut(sp?). Shipping is also free(I think) and it only takes about a week to get your equipment. They also have the most complete line of power and speaker harnesses and mounting brackets I've ever seen.
