From: (none) Subject: More list behavior changes... Date: (none)
Hey all- I know you're probably getting tired of a moving target, but I think this is the last batch of changes (even Jamie ought to be happy :-). I was home sick so I thought I'd take this opportunity to make some changes that I've been meaning to "get around to". The headers on mail message to the list have changed in an effort to provide the behavior that most people seem to expect: the From: and Reply-To: addresses on messages is that of the person who sent the original message the To: address on messages is the address of the mailing list These changes make this list software a pretty good mimic of the VM LISTSERV software's behavior and should provide the following behavior with most mail readers: a "reply" will go to the original author of the message to which you are replying a "group reply" should go to the original author of the message to which you are replying AND the mailing list I have also added a "Precedence: bulk" header line so that programs which recognize this header line should not send vacation notifications and error messages to the list. The loop-detection code remains in place as-is to prevent ugly error messages and looping messages to the list. All you need do to avoid triggering it is not include the "Comment:" header line from a previous message to the list in your message. I know this is not optimal, but I think it is a small price to pay for a low-noise list. Sorry Jamie... I'll also take this opportunity to remind everyone that the list archives are available via commands to "listserv@jhunix.hcf.jhu.edu" (try index miata to get started), anonymous FTP (pub/mailing-lists/miata) and gopher (mailing-lists/miata). Guess that's it for now... -Andy (Miata mailing list maintainer) Andy Poling Internet: andy@jhunix.hcf.jhu.edu UNIX Systems Programmer Bitnet: ANDY@JHUNIX Homewood Academic Computing Voice: (410)516-8096 Johns Hopkins University UUCP: uunet!mimsy!aplcen!jhunix!andy
