My question is, is it possible to get good sound with only > headrest speakers, or does one need door speakers for imageing, full > range frequency response, etc? Any other advise on such an installation > would be appreciated as well. > Yes, I would recommend door speakers for low-end bass. My setup uses Sony midrange-bass speakers( mounted in the door) and satellite tweeters (mounted in the headreast). I bought a second set of tweeters for the other headrest. The speaker set came with crossovers to split the high and low frequencys. This works well for me and I'm fairly satisfied with it. The only improvement I would make would be to add more midrange in the headrest. Imaging is pretty good with this arrangement compared to what I've heard in other cars. Mark BTW. When installing any car stereo. Don't be afraid to remove the seats and pull up the carpet to run wires. It sure beats trying to fish wires with a coat hanger. And Crutchfield has the best selection of wiring harnesses, speaker mounting and deck mounting hardware I've ever seen. Try them out. (Crutchfield 1 800 955 9009 ).
