I did consider the battery, but I wondered if that part of the
circuitry might undergo surges from the alternator that are filtered
out from the accessory power circuits.  I don't know much about
automotive electricals.

I'm looking at the Sony 10-disc rf unit too, but it's kinda big...
do you find that it uses up a significant amount of trunk space?
