I have experienced the same problem with the spark plug wires shorting to the cylinder head. It first occurred at 57K miles with the #3 cylinder. Instead of replacing the wire set with a new set (which at the Mazda dealer cost $71.00) I cleaned the arc area with rubbing alcohol and wrapped the wire with electrical tape. Since then, two additional wires have developed the same problem and I performed the same fix. It seems to be working. I have over 65K now without the problem recurring on any of the taped wires. I don't really like the fix (it seems like a band-aid), but it works. Has anyone found out if Mazda will replace the suspect wires as a recall item? My local dealer doesn't seem to know about the problem. Also, would the type or brand of spark plug have anything to do with this problem? Thanks, Greg Tashjian gtashjia.sales@pc.trimble.com
