A while back someone posted derogatory opinion about platinum tipped plugs. Since I had a set in use, and thought my gas mileage a bit low, I replaced them with some Bosch's after only 20,000 miles. The platinums (also Bosch) came out looking just fine, reasonably clean insulators, and NO sign of burning or gap change. So not surprisingly I guess, there has been no change in my mileage since then. I drive a very repeated route commuting about 70 miles per day round trip, so my results have low scatter. By the way, a year or two ago I did try out the Splitfire plugs that had been positively reviewed in Miata mag. They went back for refund after a few weeks testing, I found no difference compared to the factory plugs.
