From: (none) Subject: Mazda radio/cassette, wiring problems... Date: (none)
Hi, I have a 1990 Miata... which I brought privately in January this year (no Californian driving history so the insurance was too big on a new one!). When I first went to see the car the radio wasn't working and the owners said that the fuse had gone. When I collected the car the radio was working (but the headrest speakers didn't appear to be). Shortly after, the radio stopped working. There are no lights, no clock, no noise... as if the fuse has gone. I have an extended warranty on the vehicle but it doesn't cover the radio or wiring to it. Last weekend I attempted to look at it, to see if there was just a bad connection. After dismantling half the car I still couldn't get behind the radio. The internal fuse box (kind of under the dash, drivers side), and none of them appeared to be for the radio and all were in tact... similar with the engine fuses under the hood. I booked it in with Val Strough Mazda (who I have found to be rude and inefficient every time I have dealt with them) yesterday and asked them to find out what was wrong (and fix it, if possible!). I collected the car, and according to their report they had checked the fuses and all were OK (like I didn't know that already?!). They didn't know what was wrong, but apparently hadn't checked the wiring anyway. Does anyone know if there's a seperate fuse for the radio/cassette, and if so, where it is? Has anyone experienced a similar problem? Can anyone recommend a radio repair shop, or a good garage (for future use, I don't intend to do any more business with Val Strough)? I work in Alameda and live in Walnut Creek so somewhere within a reasonable distance of these two places would be good... but I'd be pleased to hear good reports of anywhere. Also... am I correct in assuming that even when the thing is fixed it's not going to work without the security code? Is there anyway to find out the security code (other than try every possible combination)? Is there anyway to reset it?! (The previous owners are being so good as to not return any of my calls). Thanx, Jo
