If the power junkies that are > squeezing in a 5.0 liter into the engine bay of the > Miata, Mazda could do better. Being a long time > RX-7 owner it would be neat to see an "RX-5 Miata." Well, it would have to be a "RX-6" since the RX-5 was the not too well remembered Cosmo (which BTW is *still* in production in Japan). In other countries they just used the RX-5 name much like the way the Miata is called only the MX-5 overseas. The big problem with the rotary is that the only engine Mazda makes now is the 13B which has too much power for the current chassis/brakes plus there are clearance problems with the suspension and the beafier transmission need with the big engine won't allow use of the Power Plant Frame (Mazda or someone did build one car with a 13B turbo. A 12A engine would be just about right but it is no longer in production. I think that would work great *if* they could do it without modifying the chassis (say, 150 hp or so :-). > I guess the big hangup with Mazda and the Miata is > one of the "Automotive Heritage" things. I had a '68 Fiat 850 spyder (the one with the flared-in euro lights) so I know where you're coming from. Let's put it this way: I sold it and bought an MG Midget because I wanted a more reliable car! --- ___ __ ___ Alan Dahl | /_ / / / Analysts International Co. | adahl@mis.corp.mccaw.com / / _/_ /___ 10655 N.E. 4th St. Suite 804 | Bellevue, WA 98004 | PH: (206) 828-1336 | FAX: (206) 828-1300
