From: (none) Subject: Potential for 0 trunk space CD changer. Date: (none)
Greetings, I just came across a Pioneer CDXFM55? CD changer for about $150 (it was a demo) sans FM converter. Too good to be true. Anyway I measured it out and went back to the Miata to see where it might go. I tried the space behind the spare wheel -- it's only off by 1/2 inch or less (good as a mile). However, on the other side, behind the easily removed metal guard is a great place.... Except for the fuel vent line. Not the Big fill line, just the vent. This is because there is a metal tube attached to the nozzel end followed by a rubber tube that eventualy enters into the tank area. The only thing in the way, is that metal section of tubing which has a 90 deg bend that extends into the middle of this precious cargo space. It occurs to me that the only reason for the metal section of tubing is to ensure that the entire vent line will be monotonic. i.e. you don't want a U shaped sink trap. Does anyone know of any reason not to shorten that tube (I'm long passed the warrenty period) and run a longer length of fuel line over the changer (to prevent a trap). Is there any reason that I haven't thought of why this might be dangerous? Thanks and regards, Steve Cobb scobb@magnes.com
