Subject: headrest spkrs & stereo balance

I've got the headrest speakers and stock stereo in my '93 miata,
installed by the dealer after I bought the car.  They sound OK; it's a
big improvement, but in an effort to verify that they are wired
properly, I discovered that the balance control has no apparent effect
on them.  Is this by design?  I can imagine that it might be.
