I seem to be having trouble getting stuff out to the List so I'll try this again. ---------------------------- Text of forwarded message ----------------------- Date: Tue, 27 Apr 93 10:56 EDT To: miata@JHUNIX.HCF.JHU.EDU From: Mary E Daniel Subject: Re: Autocross Schools To: Guy Montgomery > > I am interested in autocrossing, and have seen autocross schools mentioned > several times recently. What fun! The Tarheel Sports Car Club puts on a school each year in early Spring. At the last THSCC meeting, I believe I heard someone mention a school put on by the Tidewater Sports Car Club (I think it may have already happened, though). At any rate, if you're close enough to them (homebase Norfolk), you may want to contact them for info. Their # listed in the last THSCC newsletter was 804-461-7222. Also, the SCCA Rally/Solo # is 303-779-6622. They should be able to give you the # of your SCCA region's rep. BTW, I was pretty awful in the April run. It was a long course with ALOT of cones & I was confused (or I should say more confused than usual) all day. (I shouldn't admit it, but I DNFed all 4 runs!) Yet, I'm undaunted & will return in May. The only other Miata participating (from Greenville, SC, I believe) took 1st in CS. And, for whoever it was asking about wheels/tires for beginners, I went to see the local tire dear who supplies alot of the autoXers around here. He just happened to have a set of the stock steel wheels & let me borrower them with used tires mounted & balanced for $40. After the school, I bought them from him for $60. If I wear these tires out before the end of the season, I'll just get some more used tires from him again for $40. My autoXer friend here tells me that this is the most feasible approach for a beginner. Mary E. Eunos Furiae (8-)<& m_daniel@unc.edu
