Jeff says: "I was also looking at a pair of Inifinity two-way separates for the doors. These have a crossover and a separate tweeter unit that mounts separately from the door speaker. Anyone try something like this in the Miata? Happy Monday, Jeff Maurer (jdm)" I installed a set of Sony separates, ???-36 i think. They are 6 1/2" woofers with a built in cross over and 1 inch tweeters. I mounted the woofers in the stock speaker location with minor trimming of the door metal, similar to what is required in the Clearwater installation. I mounted the tweeters on a formica sample found at Home Depot. This material is thin and relatively strong. I mounted the tweeter on one end of the sample and slipped the wire and remaining sample between the lower door panel and the upper door panel near the forward edge of the door near thew vent ball on the dash. I then used duct tape on the back of the door panel to hold the speaker in place. I trimmed the edges to hide as much of the formica as possible. The result was a clean instalation with no holes required in the door panel. I refused to ruin a perfectly good door panel. The sound is better with more bass response than most of the coaxials I test mounted in the door. I could use more bass but the Sony's were inexpensive (on sale). Because the Sony's are less efficient than the factory speaker resulting in more relative volume from the head rest speakers. now I use the head rest speakers as mid range at about half volume or less. I have the factory cassette and cd player and no separate power amp. (subject to change) Eric Fancher Tejas Miatas Austin, Texas
