Jackson racing has done some dyno work, I understand, and found that
removing the exhaust system aft of the cat entirely is good for ~6-7 bhp.
Aftermarket replacements for your exhaust promise anywhere from 3-4
(Walker Dynomax muffler only) all the way up to 10-12 (Trust, available
from a company in NJ, and I don't believe them). I've got the
Millen/Leistritz exhaust, and it seems to have delivered about 6 bhp.

Yes, it has a knock sensor (or I remember seeing reference in the shop
manual), but I don't think high-octane fuel is going to help a lot with
the Miata.

I think Momo has one. IMO, a chrome or polished aluminum sphere looks
better and feels better than the stock shifter, though. It'll be shorter,
so you get shorter shifts.
