It requires inserting a line conditioner in the lines between the stereo (head unit) and the amp. Call Crutchfield or clearwater for further details. I wouldn't worry too much about the thump, though. As long as you've upgraded the speakers, you won't damage them, and you can avoid the thump entirely if you never turn off the stereo. Just switch from tape to radio (turn on the radio) when a tape's done, then eject the tape.
