You have to keep in mind what kind of vehicle you are buying. My previous purchase was a Chevy S-10, so of course I got an extended warantee, for 5 yrs. At 4 yrs, 10 mos., I had to get a new transmission (automatic). Seems Chevy lived up to my experince with older Chevys, and sold low quality transmissions. (I got a $2000 trans for $150, warantee cost $700.) (With all the care and maintenance I put into the truck, this has been its only problem. I still have it and still use it - for grunge driving...) When I got the Miata, my dealer didn't even bother to insult the car by offering an extended warantee. :-) Ed Lewis
