I thought the front license plate looked *SO* ugly I never put it on, except 
once, and then only for a few days.  The car is almost 4 years old.  When it was
less than a month old, I drove from Dallas to El Paso.  Just west of Abilene, a
state trooper pulled me over.  While he was writing me a warning for not having
a front license plate, his partner made several trips around the car, almost
drooling on it.  There, by the side of the road, I whipped out the tools (I 
didn't trust it yet), and put on the front plate.  It stayed on the rest of that
trip but was then removed and has never been replaced, and I've never been
troubled by it's absence.  Incidently, this was when I found out that if you
keep driving in a heavy thunderstorm with the top down, you won't get wet.  
And, if you go over 90, not even the trunk lid gets wet :-)  Anyway, I carried
the plate in the car for about 2 years in case it became a problem, now I leave
it at home.
