Hi FOlks, I just got back into Madison last night. I spent yesterday with the Windy City Miata club at a small private racetrack near Keeler, MI (called Gingerman Lake). The track is an older asphalt surface, 9'6" wide, and about 6 miles long. The track looks something like this: _________ / \ | ---- | \ | /--\__/ | / \____/-----/ cars run clockwise. The top edge is a long straight that feeds into a long, gentle right turn (the top right corner). Speed in the straight can exceed 70mph. The bottom side is a series of turns over rolling terrain. The bottom left corner is a right turn at the bottom of a small hill. The entire course is on rolling hills, there is no "flat" section of track. The fastest times were turned in by Goeff Evans in a SSC stock miata (~45 seconds). The fastest times in the factory stock classes were: 49.26 - novice (my time), 49.06 - intermed- iate (Dan Baker), ~48.3x - expert (Rock -someone I didn't really meet). If anyone wants to run on the track, it is available for $125 a day - the windy city chapter can give you info on how to rent the track. The track (facilities and land) are for sale if anyone wants to own their own racetrack! Again, driving on this course (and autoXing) is a blast. I can't wait till the autoX at the June Sprints in two weeks. For all you autoXers, where can I get a copy of the SCCA rulebook? If you have info (phone number, address, etc) please send it top me personally. After tomorrow morning I am switching to the digest as I won't be home for two weeks. John Keating- I found Michael Rawdon. You can contact him at "rawdon@ colby.cs.wisc.edu" or maybe "rawdon@cs.wisc.edu". I just made contact through email last night, so I haven't talked to him yet. -alex-
