From: elewis@kong.gsfc.nasa.gov (Spaced Invader) Subject: New Car Problems Date: Mon, 28 Jun 1993 13:52:03 -0400
I got a 92b six months ago and have found some "problems" with it. (Other history: The car sat around lots for 6 months before I bought it. When it was delivered, the rear window defroster unit was "missing," but was quickly replaced.) I just took it back to a dealer to make some adjustments, but the problems remained. The car had 6000 miles June 16th, the day it came back from the garage. It now has 8200 miles. The first problem is that the car drifts left on the highway. I asked the dealer to align the wheels. Assuming this was done, what else could cause this drift? (Tire pressure is 30 on all 4 of the stock tires.) The second problem is that sometimes the car "fights" going into 4th (but not as much as the often-described 1st to 2nd shift.) This may be my fault, this is the first stick shift I've driven since large Dodge product during high school driver's ed. The 8200 miles is the sum total of my stick experience. However, sometimes I feel a slight, small jolt in the stick while shifting into 4th. The jolt happens about 1/4th of the time, and I have been sure to have the clutch all the way down. I have also had a few times in which reverse didn't engage, once since the last look-see by the dealer. (I am tired of going from 5 to 2, or downshifting when I should be upshifting.)
