Hello Miataians.. I guess it was Andy who posted the query on the subject of race rubber transport.. Let me first preface this note with the statement that these are my opinions and .. that i feel strongly about them because of experience & observations in the field. yes .. some of this Will contradict the views of friends .. but that's what makes good dicussion/debate/arguement over beer.... ============================ Carrying Tires .. I was at an event and I saw a CS Miata driver bring his A008Rs tires in the car .. He had one in the trunk and 3 in the passenger seat .. he was running 185-60-14. I went home and quickly adopted a similar method. I am running 225-45-13. One tire goes in the trunk... 2 tires lie on the passenger's seat, over far enough such that they are also on the center console alittle..... the 4th tire stands in front of the others . ( in the space between the others on the seat and the dash ) Mostlikely ... it will not touch the floor.. but it will squeeze in ..!!! This will not inhibit th euse of the conv. top. I nthe space beneath the tire .. I usually put my jack and other things. ================================= Race Rubber or Compromise Rubber... I would always suggest getting a separate set of rims and going with race rubber .. Your street tires will last and you will get many many events out of yourrace rubber..... I have seen many street tires eaten-up by one good autox event,,... I would suggest 185-60-14 Yoko A008 RS (or) RSII... i have no experience with BFG or other companies ( sorry). but .. by rotating the tires and keeping a close eye on them .. you can easily get 25-30 events on them. Right now .. i am using Yoko A509 tires on the street.. I am VERY happy with them , in both the dry/wet conditions.. People have said to get the AVS tire .. but they are more expensive .. and I wonder just how much ( if any) better do they perform ..??!!!!! i know they cost alot more... for the price of the A509 tire... the tire must be the best-bang-for-the-buck ....tire !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i would say that they would probubly make a decent compromise tire IF thatwas a concern..... oddly enough .. they nhave the same characteristics as the A008RS, when driven in the street...... SIZES.... ( this is a very personal subject .. If you agree then fine... if you don't. then fine) .. NOW .. If you are not autoxing and want a nice looking meaty tire ..
