To give numbers to the weight issue, I happen to have recently weighed
both the steel base model rims and the Pkg A/B alloys.  The steel ones
weigh about 22 pounds each, and the alloys about 12, so right off you
save 40 pounds, before you get into the other issues of unsprung weight
and rotational inertia.
