I would guess that the dealer is upset because they can't sell you their own 
plugs at a large mark-up.  I have used split fires for almost 2 years and 20k 
miles with no problems at all.  I took them out to clean them last month and 
they were almost as new with no signs of uneven fire or deterioration.  I'd 
say go for it, with or with out the dealer.  It will not void your warranty.
