Subject: Speedometer wierdness

Has anybody experienced intermittent problems with the speedometer
indicating inaccurate speeds? I have a 1990 Miata with 43K miles on it.
In the past few weeks it has sporadically indicated speeds of 80 - 90
mph at 3000 rpm in 5th gear. I suspect this may mean that the speedometer
may be going bad. I don't see anything outwardly wrong with
the cable and removing it looks like it will be a contortionist's adventure.
