Well, nearly everyone seemed to think a better method of making digests
available would be "A Good Thing" so I "Just Did It".

Note: this is still under test (though no problems have surfaced yet).  If
you just can't live with the possibility of having to retrieve the
archived messages because my brilliantly written software blew you off,
you should probably wait until it has been tested some more.

There are three new mail options available: "daily", "weekly", and
"monthly" (which will soon replace "digest").  The daily digest will be
mailed out daily at 5am ET, the weekly at 5am ET Monday morning, and the
monthly at 5am ET on the first of each month. 

There are also some new files available in the archive (whether you
retrieve them via FTP, gopher, or commands to the listserv).  They are
"todays_messages", "this_weeks_messages" and "this_months_mesages".  I
think it's probably obvious what they contain.  :-)   The
"this_months_messages" will also automatically be turned into
miata.archive-month-year at the end of the month.  This has all been
automated in software - mostly because I have been empirically proven to
be a poor implementation of an automaton.  :-)

If any of you would like to act as "Official Test Subject"s just send a
message to "listserv@jhunix.hcf.jhu.edu" (or, if you like,
"miata-request@jhunix.hcf.jhu.edu") with a line like

set miata mail daily

in it ("weekly" or "monthly" will also work).  If anyone has any problems
at all with the new digests I would like to hear about it.  I will be
spiffing up the format of the digest once I'm sure the basic functionality
is not flawed.  At present, it is just a bunch of mail messages (with all
of the ugly headers included) - one after the other.
