Hmmm "hissing noise from under the car that goes away with light pressure on the clutch" This sounds like another manifestation of the infamous "clutch chirp" that has plaqued many Miata owners. It is caused by the clutch fork vibrating against the plunger of the slave cylinder. The cure involves putting a dab of grease on the fork where the slave cylinder plunger contacts it. You can either crawl under the car and do this with your finger, or put some grease on the end of a long stick and do it from above. Don't laugh. I didn't believe this would fix it myself until I tried it. Milton Horst Seattle, WA
