From: Herb Samuels Subject: NGK Platinum Plugs Date: Thu, 15 Jul 1993 09:38:58 -0400
The use of platinum plugs in the Miata may have been discussed before. What prompted this post is an advertisement from Rod Millen suggesting the use of NGK Platinum plugs for the Miata. I had replaced the stock plugs with Splitfires about 7,000 miles ago which gave a slight improvment in drivability. However, it was always rough in the upper RPM ranges. I know someone else with the same problem and they replaced the Splitfire plugs with standard NGK plugs (not platimum) which markedly improved the high RPM vibration of the engine. The NGK plugs are reccommended as replacement plugs in the Miata Shop Manual (don't remembwer the number but they end in tne number 7). I am thinking of replacing the Splitfire plugs with these standard NGK plugs but wondered if the NGK Platimum plugs might be better. In particular, I am also considering installing a BBR turbo conversion and wonder if the platinum plugs would also be better with the turbo driven engine. Is it all hype or do the platinum plugs give higher performance (exclusive of longevity). Herb Samuels
