Actually this was for front and rear axles.  Granted still painfully steep!

The only negative thing I've heard about carbon pads is that they're more
suited to track/racing use than for the street.  They require some warmup
and so aren't suited to freeway driving where there may be long periods
between use.

I'd be interested to hear your assessment!
