Leather wrapped stearing wheel (best part of package A 1/2 :-)) In '92 the radio came in package A, the headrest speakers in B, and there were no power mirrors available. You must have at least package B to get ABS. You cannot find a car with any options that does not have A/C. Ordering special from the factory will probably end up costing more than buying with A/C off the lot. Hardtops are only sold (officially) in addition to an option package. Note that hardtops from '90 miatas did not have the rear window defogger. > If $13K is your limit, don't even consider a new Miata. I just bought a new package A with A/C, yellow paint (an extra cost option) and limited slip differential last week for $15,400. The secret: look for close-outs. Mine is a '92. The dealers are looking at getting '94s in (which will be notably different--bigger engines) and don't want old cars on the lot. If you can wait 'til October or December, you can probably cut a similar deal on a '93. Or find a '92 still in stock, but they're going fast. The dealer cost on '92 cars are (you don't want to pay more than this): Base Price $13,024 CA Emission Equip 59 Package A 1,151 Package B 1,714 Yellow Paint 215 Limited Slip Differential 200 Anti-Lock Brakes 765 Air Conditioning 664 Floor Mats 45 Destination Charge 350 Advertising 300 (The advertising cost is charged by the local dealership group (in my case the Northern California Mazda Dealers or some such) for advertising. It appears on the invoice. The amount varies by region. So how good a deal can you cut? Well adding up all the costs for my car show a dealer cost of $16,008. So I bought for over $600 below dealer cost. It is worth spending a couple of thousand extra for a new car instead of used. And if you can find a base model '92 you can probably get it for $13K or less. MSRP builds in about a $2000 profit to the dealer. The sticker shows a further $2500 or so. You can buy below MSRP on a brand new car almost always. Remember that Miatas are not in the demand they once were. We are in a bad economy and a Miata is not a sensible car to buy. For the same money you can buy a Toyota Camry.
