I can't remember whether I read it here or on Miataville, but discussion of
the relocation of the front license plate has convinced me to relocate mine
somewhere other than on the front of the car.  A friend of mine has had his
off for two years without consequence, even having been stopped twice by
the MD State Police.  Mine is now in the trunk, and if when stopped anyone is
asked about the plate (in my family of drivers), the answer is "it fell off
this morning, and I need a 6mm nut to put it back on.  It is in the trunk."
Of course all of the associated hardware is available to substantiate the
story, but I am guessing about the 6mm nut, it's probably more like 4, or 5 mm.
