From: bob@aztech.ba.md.us (Robert V. Meushaw) Subject: performance mods Date: Mon, 9 Aug 1993 10:37:52 -0400 I would like to know if anyone has made the low cost performance mods made in past issues of Miata mag. The mods I saw included advancing the timing to about 14 degrees BTC, using Spitfire plugs, changing to a better air filter, and perhaps a few other minor things. I'd like to know if anyone can comment from experience on these changes. I am particularly interested in the timing change. What are the disadvantages of making this mod? Timing change was easy to do, and made the car slightly - but noticeably - more "spunky." My wife noticed it too. I now seem to get an occasional knock if the revs drop down too low from a standing start. Otherwise, no drawbacks I've noticed. --------- QUESTION: I would like to run an intake snorkel from the airbox to the front of the car to draw in cool air. I would close off the original snorkel. However, I can't find a good place to draw the cool air - the front end of the car is just too crowded. There's a 3/4" space in the driver's side of the radiator. but it's pretty tight. Has anyone else tried rerouting the intake - without buying the Jackson Cold-Air kit?
