Here in Virginia it's required, too.  A large number of people flaunt the law (
me included) and remove the entire front license plate and brackets.  Looks
much better that way.  I've already gotten one ticket for not having it (from
a parking meter cop, fer chrissakes!!).  It cost $35.

The country's being overtaken by terrorists, machine-gun-toting drug lords,
and mutant alien cyborgs from Arkansas %^), and the cops waste time hassling
Miata owners about no front plate (rant, rant, rave, spit, meow, etc. etc.).
Go figure.
