Fortunately, Mazda and the dealers have been heavily discounting the cars recently such that the "street" price hasn't gone up that much. In fact, I've seen '93 "A"s advertised for $14,999, less than the $15,775 (marked up $900 over sticker) I paid in '89. Still, I don't think Mazda will be able to maintain that price given the dollar's poor performance against the yen. Seeing that _Autoweek_ says that the new US-built BMW roadster will sticker at around $20K I think Mazda should consider moving Miata production to the US. If Flat Rock, Michigan (where the MX-6/Probe is built) has the capacity it shouldn't be too difficult, if not, then I suppose it's probably not worth it. I would guess a US-built Miata would sticker for $2500 or so less than a Japanese-built one. >The Torsen diff will be on all models except the base. The base model will >be in limited supply (5-10% of all models). I guess that the price ($17,500) for the R1 isn't all that bad if the Torsen diff is included since the diff alone (actually, the 323 GTX rear diff which fits the Miata) lists for $750 in the competition parts book. --- ___ __ ___ Alan Dahl | alan.dahl@mccaw.com -or- /_ / / / Analysts International Co. | adahl@axysdev.krldwa.mccaw.com / / _/_ /___ 10655 N.E. 4th St. Suite 804 | (NeXTMail OK) Bellevue, WA 98004 | PH: (206) 828-1336 | FAX: (206) 828-1300
