Would anyone be interested in compiling a list of recommended shops/mechanics for Miata? or send me inputs and I'll compile the list. Unfortunately, I have been doing mostly my own maintenance so I can't honestly or othewise recommend myself or any one else. Here's a sample list compiled originally at BBN and being updated by a former BBN`er, it is a general list for all cars in the Boston area: - ------------- NOTE: Now available via FTP. NOTE: Only comments sent to kovar@nda.com will be considered when this list is compiled. ( The Wayne Mesard Memorial BBN Auto Mechanics List ) (* Last revised: 8/18/93 *) (* Last posted: 8/15/93 *) (* Maintainer: David C. Kovar *) (* FTP site: nda.com, /pub/auto.mechanics) (This file contains three lists: Local garages (the Boston side of I95), not-so-local garages, and body shops. If this list helps you, please help the list: send ANY AND ALL feedback, additions, etc. via email to "kovar@nda.com" When writing, please mention the type of car worked on. And tell them the BBN Auto Mechanics List sent you.) (This list started at BBN a long time back. Wayne Mesard ran it for awhile and then turned it over to Jennifer Wiesen, also at BBN. She left and noone at BBN seemed to want it, so I (an ex-BBN'er) adopted it. Here it is, again, for your reading pleasure ....) (Format: Each entry is given a grade based on recent feedback. "A+" means consistently excellent reports. An "F" means avoid at all costs. "C+" indicates about even numbers of good and bad reports. The three lists appear alphabetically. When reading this file with GNU Emacs, you can reorder the lists such that they appear from most- favorably-reviewed to least by following these two steps: (1) Type Control-X Control-P. (2) Type Escape-X sort-paragraphs. [Yes, Wayne was a geek.]) A A&M FOREIGN MOTORS: 47 Webster Av, Somerville - 776-1760 ASE certified mechanics. 6/89: Excellent diagnosis on a Toyota. "Honest and capable." 11/90: Good job on two Toyotas. 9/9/92: Excellent, resposible work. 5/1/93: Excellent work, good price. 8/1/93: Good work on routine maintenance. : : : etc... C- BOSTON ACURA: Soldiers Field Road, (Allston?) 3/92: Employees were so rude and unfriendly I went somewhere else to have work done. 3/93: Competent, but ridiculously expensive. Have to deal with self-righteous service reps, not mechanics. Don't go unless it is warranty work. A+ BRATTON, PETER: Medford & Brockton - 395-8263 Professional Subaru mechanic who works out of his home on weekends. Brother of Dave Bratton (dbratton@bbn.com), BBN employee (and loyal sibling :-). Subarus only. 10/92: Still A+. Transactions are cash only. Peter is working less and overseeing more due to an injured back, but still excellent. 7/89: Hassle-free, highly competent and 50% cheaper than garage rates! 3/90: "Excellent." 4/91: Saved me lots of $$$ on chapman lock install. (I request him when I take my car to Boston Subaru where he works.) 7/91: "Most excellent! A+" : : : : etc... } }}}} AUTO BODY SPECIALISTS {{{{ { } B-, WEBSTER AUTO BODY: 69 Webster Ave, Somerville 666-8181 10/92: Best if you know what you want and aren't in a hurry.
