Well, have you tried backing the timing down from 14degrees?  Although many
folks have reported good results by advancing the timing to 14 degrees, not
*everyone* has good luck. I had big trouble with pinging and occasionally 
experienced what you described until I backed it down to about 12 degrees.
I'd experiment with the timing.  Be sure to adjust the idle speed to compensate
for any timing changes.

BTW, its unlikely the fuel filter would be a contributor.  Or the wires at 10K.
